Jipsy the Kelpie Mix
Jipsy's mom says: My Boyfriend Henry and I adopted Jipsy from the SPCA. We fell in love w/her as soon as we saw her big (at the time) floppy ears. Our hearts melted when we heard that she was found inside a dumpster along w/two of her sisters. Now, we can't imagine life without her. She's a very active puppy who loves to chew on raw hides, play fetch and run after rabbits. She loves to be outdoors camping or swimming in the river. She can play "chuck it" all day long! When she's not running for the ball she likes to show us her tricks like sit, spin, lay down, under, and our favorite "BANG BANG!". She also likes to go to the Dog Park and show everyone her agility stunts. She just loves being a dog and at the end of the day she plops down on her bed and is immediately in heaven.
Jipsy will keep you busy trying to keep up with her, kelpies are aussie sheep dogs bred tough, smart, and agile to round up those pesky sheep and anything else that moves. Kelpies are 2 breeds in Australia, show dogs (benchies) and working dogs. the show dogs are bred for their looks first and the workers are bred for working qualities.

Hi Jipsy. Being part Kelpie you will have boundless energy and be very alert. Love your big erect ears ... "All the better to hear you with", and your long tongue ..... "All the better to lick you with". As you have Kelpie in you, you should be able to follow hand signals with training. Have a great life with your family.

Jipsy's story is the very reason dogs are better than people. She was found in a dumpster and still has the faith and love in her heart to move on and become a happy, glorious dog. Dogs are such loyal companions...bless you and your fur baby. Thanks for rescusing her.

My wife and I rescued a full bred kelpie from a shelter here in NJ and have totally fell in love with the breed. Kelipes are loving, smart (sometimes too smart) and full of energy. Jipsy is beautiful and its wonderful that she now has a home. Those ears, the tongue and white blaze remind me so much of my own puppy.
As caramel above said, Kelpies are amazing dogs, google them!

All of my children(dogs/cats) have been "throw aways". One of my cats was also found inside a trash container with it's siblings, he was the only one that survived. The law puts so much attention on dog breeds...[u]they need to smarten up and put it on pet cruelty![/u]
JIPSY IS A BEAUTY! She shows SOOOO much expression of her thoughts/feelings. She's just a "ham" for getting her picture taken...lol! I wonder is she is part German Shepherd with her ears doing the flip flop? They do this during teething. Also with her ENERGY, I really believe that her breed comes from the "working group". Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Kelpie's...guess I need to do some homework!

I have the same problem with the ads covering the photos. What I do "temporarily" to fix the problem is this: At the top of my Internet Explorer window I pull down on the View menu and choose Text Size and set it to Smallest. Then you might have to refresh the window.
She is lovely! This is a great photo. I must admit I am partial to black dogs ...and white ones..red etc..Seriously I am a Groenendael Belgian Shepherd fan. What a beautiful dog! I too had a kelpie mix. What energy they have! My Cody was a beautiful dog, mixed with Australian Shepherd. What a mix! Unfortunately after 8 wonderful years he was attacked by three off leash pit bulls and killed. My life will never be the same, but his love for life and constant "smile" will be in my heart forever! Enjoy your girl, she will give you years of laughter and smiles! 1000 biscuits to you Jipsy!

I cannot understand why people don't just take their unwanted animals to a shelter, almost every community has one so there's really no excuse to let any animal starve or be smothered in a dumpster or left to "manage on their own". There's too many people who will care for them if they're only given a chance. Jipsy is a lucky girl and you are too to have her. Best wishes for many years of joy and a million biscuits!

Hello everyone its Jipsy's mom. Thanks for all your wonderful comments and well wishes. No, we didn't clip her ears. Sometimes I do think she has some german shepherd in her because of her pointy ears. She actually has brown highlights all throughout her coat. Ahh yes the infamous tongue. It matches her ears. LOL The tongue is a measurement of how tired she is. The longer it is the better for us. We always feel lucky to have adopted such a smart loving dog. :) This is my current fav pick. So intent on the next command! Or perhaps she saw a Rabbit. By the way, no rabbits are ever harmed. They are too quick even for this Kelpie!

Even with such a small start on life, Jipsy has a huge presence. I also think she looks like a Great Dane in this picture and in some places she looks like she's part black Lab.

Cosmetic surgery seems repulsive enough when it is your own choice, it shouldn't be forced on a dog! Very weird! Just thought someone should say something....

As awful as being "thrown away" in a dumpster is to us humans, puppies would only see it as a strange and smelly place. They simply wouldn't have the same association and once fed, cleaned and warm would forget the ugly act. Unforgivable, unthinkable, cruel and unecessary.

Bull terriers are quintessential DOG!! What an opportunity you have and what a good attitude re the former owner. There are and will always be jerks out there who don't get it... not sure why... something missing... maybe they need to be fostered and cared for just like you will with their former dog!

I have a doggie that looks exactly like yours, (except he is brown) and everyone tells me he is a Kelpie mix. He was also rescued so were weren't quite sure what he is...he was dumped in a cardboard box with his 5 brothers and sisters (he was the Daily Puppy on 7/13/07). He started out with floppy ears like a lab and then they popped up one day. For a while he had one up and one down, then they were both kind of up and kind of down at the tip, and now they are at full mast in all their glory. They are exactly as tall as Jipsy's! Everyone comments on his ears. The vet even said they were radar dishes! He also has a super long tongue and a really long tail. I would love to see some more pix so I can compare Jipsy to Sutter a little more!

Thank you for adopting a shelter pup! She's so pretty, and looks so sweet, intelligent, and stately. She reminds me of Anubis, the jackal headed Egyptian god. OK, I doubt you'll find images of him with his tongue playfully lolling out of his mouth, or looking beautiful and coy like she does as he chews on a toy, but in the favorite photo I chose, I'm sure people can see what I'm saying. :) May you have many happy years with your beautiful Jipsy. Jipsy is a beautiful, "regal" looking girl!!! So many wonderful, striking poses, it was hard to pick just one!!! But, this "cutie" look in the park won out!!! She is really concentrating on "wabbits!!!"
